This year marks the 37th anniversary of the 1989 Democracy Movement and the June 4th Massacre.Our vigil this year is centred on the theme: "Carry the Light, Keep the Fight" (永志長明). This title honours Xiong Zhiming (熊志明), a student protester murdered in the 1989 Massacre, whose father passed away recently. During the evening, we will recount his story to ensure his legacy is remembered. The program will feature a broadcast of a testimony from Zhang Xianling (張先玲), a member of the Tiananmen Mothers. Additionally, we will read an important statement from Chow Hang-tung, who is currently staging a 37-hour hunger strike from prison in Hong Kong. Throughout the evening, we will be joined by speakers representing the Uyghur and Tibetan communities, Hong Kongers in exile, and local human rights activists.
